  • VIRTUAL TOURS

Personally led and narrated by a docent member of the community, this on-line tour replicates the in-person experience with extensive video and still imagery of the entire site.

Learn how a group of Sephardic Jews, fleeing the Portuguese Inquisition in Brazil, secured the protection of Oliver Cromwell, the Protestant leader of England, and made their way to Barbados in 1654. Over two centuries the Jews of Barbados prospered in the sugar trade, but then declined as the economic fortunes of the island waned. Learn also about the tiny but vibrant Ashkenazi community that now thrives in Barbados, descended from a small group of Jewish refugees who arrived here during the Nazi Inquisition (!) of the 1930s.
